About Castro (... Jason... not Fidel)
Haven't been writing on any blog lately because I've been so depressed about Jason Castro's departure from American Idol. Not that I''m googoogaga about the guy, but I'm a folkie at heart, and his mellow hippy attitude was perfect for my weekly fix of music on TV.
This is the first American Idol ever where laid-back non-belty contestants have made it this far on the show. Plus, Castro is the only one that has sung THREE of my fave musicians: Leonard Cohen, Bob Marley, and Bob Dylan, artists that are not - actually NEVER - featured on the show.
And out of all the Idol contestants, I think Castro is the only true rebel of the bunch. Yeah, there's D'Cook, but his claim to fame on Idol is by turning schlocky pop songs into slightly edgier pop songs - DISTORTION does wonders. Cook didn't even do that well on his own genre with the 500-songs-that-shaped-Rock-n-Roll theme. Out of all 500 songs, the one he sang was Hungry Like The Wolf?? Come on, dude. You can do better than that.
Castro is a rebel for picking actual anti-establishment songs and because he's the only contestant who won't let winning or losing Idol define him. Oh well, it was good while it lasted. I will miss seeing his goofy demeanor on TV.
Now I'm stuck with some faux-rocker, an aw-gee-golly 10-year-old with a speech impediment, and a Disney Princess whose American Idol journey is (according to her) akin to the Civil Rights Movement.
Ay jeez... I don't know what to think anymore. It's always like this every freakin' year! I tell myself I'll never watch Idol again, but then I get caught up in the loop every time. Go fig.

Sorry about your external drive! :( Usually too expensive to recover data from a dead one. Next time I suggest buying two, and copy date over to the other one. Some have software for that. And get yourself an APC UPS while you're at it. Power quality must suck big time!

Hey, I have all the studio Idol songs from iTunes (secret: didn't buy them.. got them from a friend). Idol won't be making bucks from me.
